LUXURY DAMASCENE PROCESS
As in the case with many creative process, the first step is to capture the main idea on paper. The designer draws the motifs to be used later on the metal piece to be worked. Traditional damascene craftwork is mainly of 2 types: geometric designs, consisting of infinite interlacing lines.
And a second type called renaissance, which depicts leaves, flowers birds and volutes.

Each print is carefully sketched by our designers who manually create a one-of-a-kind print.
TRADITIONAL HANDCRAFTED FINISH
After the gold has been inlaid, the piece is then submerged in a hot caustic solution to obtain a quick chemical rusting of the steel, giving the damascene its characteristic velvety black color.
The piece to be worked by the artisan, is placed over a peculiar metal base called a “bala” ( cannonball ) which is attached to a wooden triangular platform. This allows the artisan to manipulate the article easily during the next step.
The last, and perhaps most relevant phase, is known as “repasado” or the finish. It will give the work its final appearance and its uniqueness. With different polishing chisels, of different shapes and with various uses, the artisan enhances the gold inlay by giving it a sensation of having shade, light, perspective and shine.
